Frequently asked questions about features
Does Ekynavy really work without a network?
Yes. GPS tracking, the logbook, pre-loaded GRIB files, weather points synced before departure, and downloaded SHOM charts all work offline. As soon as 4G or Wi-Fi comes back, synchronization is automatic. The only features that need an active connection are the live Windy map and WorldTides updates.
How many boats can I manage on the Fleet plan?
Up to 20 boats on the Fleet plan, with unlimited crew members invited per boat. Beyond that, contact us for a custom offer (sailing schools, commercial fleets, charters).
Does GPS tracking drain a lot of battery?
No. In 200 m mode (coastal and offshore navigation), expect around 8 to 12% battery per 24 h on a recent iPhone, provided you keep the screen off. In 200 m power-save mode, consumption drops further. In 20 m mode (max precision), consumption rises but stays compatible with a standard day at sea.
Is my logbook data private?
Yes, by default. Your logbook is only visible to you and the accounts you've explicitly invited (with the role you assign). You can generate time-limited share links for relatives, but no data is public or used commercially.
Can I use Ekynavy without an Apple Watch?
Yes. The Apple Watch is a plus for skippers who want to control the app without pulling out their iPhone, but every Ekynavy feature is fully accessible from iPhone, iPad or web browser, on iOS and Android.
Can I recover my old navigations if I change phone?
Yes. All your data is synchronized to your Ekynavy account and is automatically restored on first sign-in on a new device. You can also export all your navigations as GPX + PDF at any time.
Does Ekynavy replace a certified GPS plotter?
No. Ekynavy is a complementary tool. It does not replace certified navigation equipment, official nautical charts, or the sailor's judgment. For offshore navigation or complex zones, a dedicated GPS plotter, paper charts and a VHF radio remain mandatory under the navigation categories (A, B, C, D) defined by the applicable regulations.
